for the journal Region: Economics and Sociology

In 1993, due to reorganization of the journal Bulletin of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences. Region: Economics and Sociology, the Institute of Economics and Industrial Engineering of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IEIE SB RAS) became one of the founders of the all-Russian scientific journal Region: Economics and Sociology. As agreed by the founders, IEIE SB RAS functions as Publisher. The main goals of the journal are defined by the founders as informing the readers on scientific research in regional economics and economic sociology, on trends and prospects for the development of Russian regions, and on international practices of regional science and politics.

The Institute of Economics and Industrial Engineering SB RAS is the first academic research institution of economics in the Russian Federation to the east of the Ural Mountains. It was founded in 1957; since then the Institute has become widely known in Russia and abroad and developed high reputation.

The main research directions of the Institute:

The Institute carries out research on a number of key directions in the framework of the Fundamental Scientific Research Program in State Academies of Sciences for 20132020:

analysis and modeling of how the knowledge economy and informational technologies affect structural changes, economic growth and quality of life;
development of a single systematic theory and tools to model operation, evolution and interaction of social and economic units of nano-, micro- and mesoeconomic levels;
elaboration of a strategy to transform Russian socioeconomic space and directions of territorial development;
suggestions for public policy concerning the complex development of Siberia, the North and the Far East;
social changes in post-reform Russia: transformation of the social structure, evolution of collective consciousness and sociopolitical processes.

In collaboration with scientific research organizations of the Russian Academy of Sciences from Moscow, the Ural and the Far Eastern branches of the RAS, the Institute exercises a series of basic research; together with foreign institutes (from Hungary, China and Ukraine), it participates in various international projects.

Applied research at the Institute include the preparation of strategic documents important for interregional, regional and sectoral development (the strategy of social and economic development of Siberia, the development strategies for the subjects of the Russian Federation, the transport and energy strategy of Russia, etc.). The Institute examines regional projects under order of federal ministries and departments, administrations of the Siberian regions, the Presidium of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The academic work of the Institute is widely known internationally. Members of the Institute are involved in the organization and operation of international conferences and seminars, both in Russia and abroad.
